Chapter 8 - Sinusoidal Functions
Prescribed Learning Outcomes:
D3 – Represent data, using sinusoidal functions, to solve problems.
D3 – Represent data, using sinusoidal functions, to solve problems.
8.1 - Understanding Angles
You have measured angles in degrees in other Math courses but in this section you are introduced to another measure used for angles. That new measure is called a radian.
Please watch the angles in radians video.
Please do page 519 #2, 3, 5, 7-9.

Please do page 519 #2, 3, 5, 7-9.
8.2 - Exploring Graphs of Periodic Functions
This section introduces you to the graphs of sinusoidal functions, more specifically the sine and cosine functions. On the video you will be introduced to the shape of these graphs.
Please watch the graphs of periodic functions video.
Please do page 524 #1-6.
Please watch the graphs of periodic functions video.
Please do page 524 #1-6.
8.3 - The Graphs of Sinusoidal Functions
In this section you will look at graphs of sinusoidal functions to determine the range, equation of the midline, amplitude, and period of the function.
Please watch the graphs of sine functions video.
Please do page 537 #4-6, 8, 9, 13.
Please watch the graphs of sine functions video.
Please do page 537 #4-6, 8, 9, 13.
8.4 - The Equations of Sinusoidal Functions
In this section you look more closely at the equations of sinusoidal functions. More specifically you will make connections between the parts of the graph of a sine function and the parts of the equation.
Please watch the equations of sine functions video.
Please do page 558 #5-9, 12.
Please watch the equations of sine functions video.
Please do page 558 #5-9, 12.
8.5 - Modelling Data with Sinusoidal Functions
The approach to the section will be similar to the approach to the graphing the exponential and logarithmic functions in chapter 7. You are expected to be able to graph sinusoidal functions using the graphing calculator if you are given the equation. If you are given data, you are expected to plot the points and draw a curve of best fit.
